Bukit Tabur

Bukit Tabur Pana

Take care my friends while hiking Bukit Tabur.

Bukit Tabur is a unique hill formed by a quartz ridge. Therefore, the terrain is mostly rocky surfaces with vertical cliff drops along the sides of the route. The view is rewarding for a relatively short climb which attracts a good number of hikers during the weekends.

While it is certainly a worth it place to visit, there have been numerous report of Bukit Tabur accidents on trail. Some of the reported accidents:

Jan 2014: 28 year old female hiker fell 10 meters and suffer injuries on back, hand and face.

Dec 2013: Science teacher in the 30s tumble down a steep slope and died.

Sept 2013: 51 year old man fell 60ms and suffered serious injuries.

Dec 2012: 27 year old engineer fell 100m but survived with minor injuries on his ankle and waist.

Sept 2009: 51 year old man fell, got trap in a tree branch and got stuck for 5 hours before being rescued.

Mar 2009: Two doctors found dead about 500 meters apart after a falling down a cliff.

Oct 2008: A college student fell 100 meters and suffered serious injuries.

Judging by the amount of people visiting Bukit Tabur during the weekends, I believe that the string of accidents will not deter enthusiastic hikers. My advise for hikers is to be extra careful on trail, go with someone experience and turn around if you are not confident of clearing the obstacle.
